The Cameo was a run down 1950s Art Deco theater, which no longer showed movies - instead they had bands play. They began having punk shows in 1985, only to close down after a girl dies of a heroin overdoes at a Suicidal Tendencies show in 1986. After several months they re-opened and continued to have shows (from punk in the 80s and early 90s to metal and hip-hop in the early to mid 90s) until they closed in 1995 and were soon bought out by Crobar, and transformed in 1998 to, what they now call, a 'super club'.
