1 - Tell us how your project(s)
were started.
U-dub (Universal Warning) was started at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. Me and my partners Tim Martinkovitch and Mike Varga were playing in a band called the Covert Agency. Coincidentily, we have just recently started playing again since forming the U-dub headquarters in PA and if anyone wants to book our lousy asses please contact me. Anyway, we all graduated and Tim moved to Denver. We wanted to keep our music interests and ambitions in tact so we released a compilation of some bands we liked in the area, including unreleased Jazz June material. Shortly after that, I got a job doing publicity and began making alot of contacts in the industry. We starting releasing full-lengths and became a "label".
2 - What does music, in
it's entirety, mean to you?
It means freedom, escape, reality, anger, love, peace, and a million other thoughts and feelings that can't be expressed in one word or even a phrase. It has saved my life quite a few times, and I know that sounds cheesy but I gotta tell the truth. There is something spiritual about it... doesn't seem earthly. It means that I can be what I want somewhere else or I can relieve my gut's trauma for a minute or an hour...
3 - What does art, in it's
entirety, mean to you?
Someone was trying to say to me the other day that art = beauty = pain and one cannot exist without the other, they coexist in a balance. I think that's shit. Art can be something completely pure and holy without the presence of pain, just as it can be bloody and gritty: mean. I think art is just an expression of a feeling/thought/impulse that is conveyed in a an instance. It's a perception that manifests into a creation.
4 - Who is your favorite
author, and why?
Melville. Moby Dick is a crazy ass novel that I read once in a week and gave a long dissertation about. I think some of his short stories are great too, but I really like how he describes the sea and it's power in "Dick". He has alot to say (that I agree with) about the nature of man.
5 - As your best friend,
describe yourself.
Driven. Busy. Determined. Honest.
6 - As your worst enemy,
describe yourself.
Cocky. Persuasive. Volatile. Anal.
7 - If your persona were
immortalized as a cartoon character, who would it be?
Space Ghost.
8 - Do you think there are
conspiracies against the "everyday person"?
No.
9 - What do you do with
your spare or free time?
I try to chase women around and drink alot.
10 - Please give us your
interpretation of "the meaning of life".
I hate this fucking question.
