So glad you could make it to this sermon.
And so it
was written on The First Parchment, which has been lost to us,
ever since the Temple
traded it for large quanities of GAM.
What was to
be a one time project, began something new and confusing -
a band like no other.
Taking musicians, who under no other circumstance would form a musical outfit, and put them together with one simple rule:
hurt, smash and annoy - using only sounds, philosophy and raw emotion.
This is the story of a religious experience gone wrong, yet oh so right!
Praise be He, She, It and Them.
In a time
so very long ago, at a time so very different than our own,
1992 of the Common Era, four
spiritually-retarded deviants
were asked to come up with a project to preform
a live set on New Year's Eve.
Adel 156 (of
Timescape Zero), Robert Boyle (of Swivel Stick),
Jimmy Taylor (studio jazz drummer) and Bevin G. (trance DJ) -
with the plan
to make the funkiest, yet most painful music
they could play in 45 minutes without learning a single song.
Thus was born improvisational jazz-punk and the First Cuming of SHROUD.
Their music was so loved by the 300 or so in attendance.
Enough to
where people had forgotten about the New Year -
and thus SHROUD had conquered time!
Into the night,
shortly after the First Cuming, a
local booking agent
asked them to open for Unsane
at Uncle Sams Music Cafe in a few weeks.
Radical Terror Tapes
asked them to come into the studio,
improvise six new and totally unrehearsed songs.
They said yes to both, but promised afterward to liquidate SHROUD!
Ye, behold for then SHROUD had their Second Cuming!
Thus was born
SHROUD's "Suicide Mission" EP,
released in 1993 on cassette only, and limited to 500 copies.
Out of print since 1994, their EP "Suicide Mission" has been called,
"...a mass of electronics, organics and deviance that mix together the power of punk rock, the heaviness of sludgecore and light elements of fusion jazz."
- Dovan Shakis of Rotten Sounds, London
Others said,
"Ugly
and sickly influenced by such fuckers as Man Is The Bastard and Eyehategod...
Shroud go for a twisted
sound that is bass heavy and sinister.
The lyrics ranged from political
to sick 'n' twisted. Hmmm..."
- Kent McClard of HeartattaCk Magazine, Los Angeles
A limited
CD re-release of "Suicide Mission"
will be available from feast of hate
and fear in 2005.
Other SHROUD info includes;
300 (or so)
in attendance to see SHROUD's First Cuming,
the first Parchment originally written on 3 $10 (3 x 10 = 30),
and with 3 Sacred Parchments,
SHROUD's Sacred Number is 333.
SHROUD's Sacred
Drink is a GAM
(Green Apple Martini)
SHROUD's Sacred
Mantra;
"ah eem ghraiht wyl yoossuk"
All 4 members
were originally deviants and sinners,
but their Second Cuming proved them to be DITOM,
which stands for, Divine In Their Own Minds.
SHROUD is
just a small unit of the
much larger Those That Never Sleep Network.
